I was contacted today by a man named Cliff who is looking to volunteer on a straw bale construction site in Sweden. Anybody interested? If so, please respond to this blog and I will put you in touch with the volunteer. Thanks.

I am about to start a project of some magnitude building a strawbale house in the south of sweden, the problems so far is that I don´t know first thing about it but intend to do it. At the moment I have land, a builder to lead the project and a lot of will, all I need now is a drawing, a permision and some money. As you may notice this seem unlikely to happen whithin 2 years but if al go as planed we will start building 2011 and then I will gladly take on all the volenteers posible.

Not quite sure if you want to volunteer, or that you require volunteers. I just about to conduct a course building a straw bale house up here in Värmland at the above website. Would you like to come and volunteer? We do ask volunteers to pay 1000sek per week or 1600sek for two weeks. If you come some days before the course, you get to participate in the course as well.
Apart from all that would love to keep in touch, and maybe one way or another we can help each other out.

I may be building a straw bale home as soon as the permits come through. Due to the Swedish weather I am not certain if this will happen at the end of this summer or beginning on spring/summer 2010 though. But feel free to contact me. I need all the help I can get!

In reply to Eva. So very glad to hear you will be soon building your own home with straw bales. Of course if at all possible we would love to help. How do you feel about gaining some experience and joining us here at Ängsbacka to complete our project of an oval meditation space? As you can see from the website we are a Kursgård, so we ask volunteers to pay for food and lodging and have a half price deal at this time of 500 sek per week. Or become a member for 1000sek. and come for free for at least a month.
We are at the plastering stage and roof completion. We have received a great deal of advice from Jon Rundlöf, one of Sweden’s most knowledgeable persons on clay plaster, and we have some of the purest clay around. So there is much knowledge to be gained.

We are also looking for volunteers in New Zealand!
If anyone has reasonable experience in Strawbale building and would be interested in volunteering during the construction of our new Strawbale home this coming summer between Dec 2009 – May 2010 at Wainui Beach (great surf), Gisborne, New Zealand, let us know. We are looking for hard and willing workers. We hope to be able to provide accommodation and food as payment as well as a great time! Contact Huia and Greg.

I am now closer than ever to start with one building (a garage/boiler room) before this coming winter so I’d love to have a volunteer/-s help me. I live in Southerns Sweden (middle of SkÃ¥ne). Hey… Jonas – it would also be nice to get in touch with you just to exchange ideas.
I plan to build the main house during next Spring/summer. Volunteers are welcome then too.

Dear Eva,
Good to hear that your plans are nearing fruition.
Have to admit that volunteers are short on the ground here at Ängsbacka. No one to help us completing our house. But it was used as a workshop space during the festivals.
Please do keep in touch, and keep us up with your progress, as time goes on who knows who will be available!
Attached a photo of ours so far. (apparently I have to post this on this site so I don’t know if you got my mail and photo)
With love and light

Hi everybody. I have a land here near Stavanger centre, and would like to get some help building a 28 m2 house on it. I was thinking that in return for your help, you could get to use the house for a couple of weeks a year for a couple of years. Is this of any interest to anyone? I could also put you up in my house as we are working. My email is e_tonelise@hotmail.com

Hi, I’m looking to learn more about straw bail and natural building. I’ll be in the Southern France area for the spring/summer 2011. Does anyone know of any volunteer projects in that area? I’m also willing to travel to get some experience. I’m from Canada, speak english and some French. I would really appreciate any help/suggestions. Thanks!

Hi! I would like to learn more about straw bale building and would be ready to help building anytime anywhere in the US. I have some kind of traditional building experience and I am usually pretty good with fixing/building things, and I have lots of energy! If anyone is interested, let me know.
