I received the following email today and think it is a great idea and want to share it with you all

Dear Andrew,
I enjoyed your subject regarding hanging cabinets. I wanted to offer a nice alternative, which I plan to take advantage of. As you say, a pantry can do wonders for creating needed space for what normally goes into hanging cabinets.
Besides an ample pantry, I plan on using old fashioned cupboards, or furniture that holds food stuffs and the like. Back in the day, before the invention of cabinets above the kitchen counter, they had side-boards and free standing cabinets to hold dishes, silver ware, canned foods, dry goods, etc. Besides being useful and practical, not to mention assisting the owner in eliminating the need for modern cabinets, these old fashion cupboards can be very ‘nostalgic’ and attractive, and can add a very ‘country’ decor, which a lot of people like. Hope this helps. Thanks for all your ideas and advice.
~Rod

You can also restrict hanging cabinets to interior walls, and keep the sink, laundry, steamy stove, etc. away from the bale walls.
Another alternative is to have the outside kitchen walls of cordwood, it’s less damaged by condensation, and cabinets can be screwed directly to them!
Oops, there I go again, suggesting “alternative” methods of construction to the soon to be mainstream straw bale methodology! LOL

Thanks for the ideas Doug. I love when ideas are considered alternative on a straw bale site! That’s the way I hope the main stream sees it soon too.
