there are many fringe types building straw bale structures, mostly in remote parts of south africa, see the following sites:

i personally helped build a straw bale house on the west coast of south africa, in gordons bay.
your biggest problem will be convincing the thick skinned locals in your area and the local muncipality.

Hi there. Been a carpenter for 18 years, now. Limited knowledge of straw bale, but a mate of mine’s got a good book (some Californio) – which is how we do most of our learning in this DIY country of ours. Put us in touch with this dude and we’ll let him/her read our book
