I am really excited to announce a new date and location for my seven day comprehensive straw bale workshops. For the first time ever, I will be headed to Nicaragua for a seven day class. The location is stunning as you can see by the pictures here. I am waiting for an official “host location detail” review from the host, so I won’t go into details about the site until I get that as he knows the amazing points to make about this location. One thing for sure, it will be an incredible vacation for whomever decides to join us. What could be better than sitting on the beach or swimming in the ocean after a hard days work learning how to build a bale house? Sounds pretty perfect to me!
Here’s a little description of the development in which we will be working from the host’s website:
“La Vista is a collection of beautiful home sites nestled into a secluded hillside overlooking the most amazing valley and stretch of beach on the Nicaraguan Riviera. It is located on 30 acres alongside Santa Marta, a private ranch of over 300 acres that has been owned for generations by the Ramirez family. Within La Vista, home sites are available in sizes from 1/3 to 1.75 acres.
The Ramirez family and La Vista share a vision of Eco-friendly living. Concentrating on improving the area with the least amount of ecological impact means that residents can enjoy their home in a climate as nature intended. Extensive reforestation efforts are underway to include thousands of indigenous trees and flora, ensuring year round colors of trees and flowers.”
You can read more about the development itself, see more photos and even watch some videos on their website, www.lavistanicaragua.com. The structure to the left is similar to the one we will be working on. Obviously, this style of construction is different than what most of us are used to and what most of us will build here in the States or other regions; however, the techniques I will teach you will translate to any style of straw bale construction, so you will leave the workshop with the skills necessary to build your own straw bale structure back at home.
