Beautiful Straw Bale Home For Sale
This beautiful home in southern Colorado is for sale! The location and design of his home were determined by the owner's study of feng shui, the Chinese art of harmonious design, and by his desire to use straw bales to insulate this mountain house to a factor of R55. This is only one of 13 features that make this a green home. Settled on a sloping promontory point, the center gazes south down a gentle valley -- historic Longs Canyon. Straw bales create an old world feeling of thick walls, and the passive solar placement of the house keeps the building warm in winter and cool in summer. While outside temperatures might reach 90 degrees in the height of summer, the interior temperature of the center has never exceeded 78 degrees when windows are closed during the daytime. The center is surrounded by 35 acres of pinon pines, ponderosa pines, and meadows that are alive with wildflowers during the warmer months. Winters are relatively mild. Located 8 miles (as the crow flies) from the New Mexico border, the climate is high desert and less typical of Colorado than it is of New Mexico. For more information, please click here.
Straw Bale Workshop Photos
Here's a small batch and collection of workshops from various workshops over the last few years. Our 7 day workshops are totally hands-on and you will be baling, wiring, plumbing, and plastering on real homes...no 'mock-up' walls here! The pace is relaxed and fun yet amazingly productive and efficient. Each workshop includes 3 full meals per day (you won't be hungry!), camping accommodations, bathing facilities, and everyone is encouraged to stay on site (though it's certainly not a requirement). For more information and to find the closest workshop to you, please click here.
Straw Bale Residence
This large, high-end straw bale residence was built by our very own Andrew Morrison. This home is nothing short of magnificent! The combination of the warm, inviting colors with the soft, rounded walls inspires relaxation and harmony to those who enter.

This small and elegant structure serves as the community gathering space for the residents of the Straw Bale Village. It was built by Andrew Morrison and designed by Chris Keefe of Organic Forms Design.com. The open floor plan and vaulted ceiling makes the most of this 800sq. ft. building. It has a small kitchen, bathroom, loft space and it's stamped concrete floor is heated by a radiant floor heating system. Right behind the building is the children's playground so that parents can watch their children at play while sitting comfortably in the Community Building. Sunset Cottage
This quaint and welcoming cottage was built by Andrew Morrison and designed by Chris Keefe of Organic Forms Design.com. Plans for this cottage are available for purchase from our site as is the DVD series showing how to build it. It is an ideal first time structure to build as it is small (200 sq ft), does not require a building permit in most counties in the US, and is designed with the details that one would use in building a regular sized home. It is an ideal art studio, office space, guest cottage, workout/dance space. The Sunset Cottage offers a whole lot of charm and uses for such a small space!
Cottages For Rent In Southern Oregon
We built this series of 4, 200sqft straw bale cottages on the beautiful 90 acre piece of land we used to live on with my in-laws. These have now been completed and decorated and are available to rent. I have to say that they look beautiful. Anyone can rent them for $45 each per night which also gives one access to the bathing straw bale cabin (full bathroom plus a beautiful straw bale sauna!), access to thousands of acres of hiking, ponds, and is just 15 minutes from historic Jacksonville. There is also a large retreat space (about 1,500 sq.ft.) that can be rented if you want to host your own workshop on the property. If you’ve ever been curious about how it feels to sleep in a straw bale cabin, this is a great opportunity! For more info visit www.ramsayrealty.com, click on vacation rentals
Wolf Gulch Farm
This large straw bale residence was custom built to home two sisters and their corresponding families. The house has two separate living wings and a large common/kitchen area in the middle. The four children living in the home have had an incredible childhood growing up on this community supported farm; running from wing to wing playing, harvesting fresh strawberries, swimming in the pond, and generally living the good ol' farming life. This home is the center hub of a close knit community and has hosted countless potlucks, gatherings, game nights, dance parties, and general merriment. This home lives and breathes love and community.
Hummingbird Studio
Hummingbird Studio is nestled in the gentle sloping mountains of the Little Applegate in southern Oregon. It was hand built with extreme love by two professional artists, Leslie Lee and Dennis Meiners. Hummingbird comes alive in the summer with several workshops taught by world-renowned artists that attract students from all over the country. What's more, one can have the delightful experience of waking up to Leslie's fabulous home cooked breakfast when you stay in their straw bale bed and breakfast! We highly recommend their B and B, as well as any of the workshops that they offer. You can find them online at www.hummingbirdsouthernoregon.com/
