I just got wind of a bale raising in Austin Texas. The raising is not booked as a workshop, but is instead a simple raising for a small structure. The building itself will be a 18 foot by 24 foot structure.
That is small enough that all the bales should get raised in one day. The wall raising will take place on November 18th, a Saturday. If you are interested in attending the bale raising, please contact me via this blog by posting a message. If I receive interest, I will place a second entry with information about the bale raising.

Thanks for showing an interest in the bale raising! You can contact the architect who will be hosting the bale raising directly at his email address: bobregon@austin.rr.com. He expects the walls to all be raised in two days and so has left Sunday open for raising as well. It is possible that all the walls will be completed in one day, but he does not want to count on that. In general, he asks that people show up the night before to go over safety, watch a slide show, and learn some basics of baling. This is not required, but is available to you. He will be sending out a map to the location about two weeks in advance of the raising. Again, you can contact him directly with questions. Let him know where you found out about his bale raising! You can always check in here for more information as well.

My husband and I would love to be involved in a build prior to committing ourselves to building one of our own. Is anything planned in Texas for the near future. We are in the Austin area but traveling is no problem.

Hi Starla. I sent you an email too, but wanted to make sure you received the information. I don’t have any workshops in Texas this year; however, you can see the 6 scheduled locations at http://www.StrawBaleWorkshops.com. I have dates in Oregon, Washington, Missouri, Australia, and North Dakota. I also have 2 other dates in the works (Massachusetts and another in Australia).
Hope you can join us.
