I spent the day at The West Coast Green Show today in San Francisco. I was amazed to see that even within the world of “Green Builders” there is a general lack of knowledge about straw bale construction. Of the hundreds of people I spoke with, perhaps 10 had knowledge of straw bale construction other than “Yeah, I’ve heard of that.” There was even an exhibitor who had a small model of a straw bale home and yet spoke of “Hay Bale Homes!”
What I took form this experience is that we have a lot to do to educate the world about this great building technology. We have already begun to brainstorm about new concepts and education tools for professionals as well as homeowners. Perhaps the biggest lesson I learned today is that even then professionals need help in understanding and promoting Straw Bale Construction. We are on our way and will bring new insight as we grow. Stay tuned!

I totally agree. I have read to popular books on Straw bale construction and got tired of the authors contradicting each other on exterior finishing and put the second book down. After looking through your web site and subscribing to your free lessons my interest is again peaked. I believe that your approach from a contractors view not just a pie in the sky approach will help people better understand straw bale construction and how to achieve a great finished product. Thanks for the information and I look forward to purchasing your DVD’s

Andrew,
I recently bought 3 dvds from you and appreciate your work in developing a solid resource for SB construction. Thanks.
I was at the SF Green conference and expo and personally was gratified to be surrounded by thousands of people, many of them professionals in construction, that want to know more about green building. I talked a bit to the people from St Astier, the NHL supplier. I was very happy to find them as a resource for the lime plasters. Your dvd helped me get a handle on the process and I am at least convinced of the plaster material I will use.
My project is still some time into the future. I intend to build a shop/studio in Arizona. I will be in touch.
