For those of you interested in the bale raising party in South Austin, I have some new information. Below is a release from the host of the raising:
Thanks for your interest in the wall raising to be held Sat Nov 18th in South Austin.
There will be a slide show and introduction on Friday evening before the workshop/party and a gathering after the raising as well.
Since it’s a construction site, we recommend no open toe shoes, also please bring gloves. In addition, no smoking is allowed on site.
FYI, the wall raising will be putting in the bales, floating window frames, teaching people how to make custom bales, the tricks of the trade re: installation etc. In addition we will be going over the pre-bale raising prep, (bottom plates, insect treatment etc.) May or may not get to waterproofing around doors and windows. Will probably attach stucco netting (for cement stucco) to the exterior. Will demonstrate electrical j-box installation details and niche’s.
Please contact Ben to register (it’s free, but we need an accurate count) or you can e-mail Ben if you have additional questions.
Thanks
Ben Obregon (bobregon@austin.rr.com)

Hi,
I want to attend this bale raising! I just bought ten acres and have dreamed of building a straw bale home since I was 10.
Please contact me with details, how to get there, and what time to show up.
Thanks so much!

Hi Ryan. Unfortunately, this is an old post which I forgot to take down. Sorry. This happened a few years ago.
Take a look at http://www.PlanetStrawBale.ning.com as lots of folks post their bale raisings there.
