The Key to Success

man in fat ballerina suitI believe that this quote from Albert Schweitzer speaks volumes to the confusion that many people have in regards to achieving success.  I LOVE what I do and I hope that shows in my work. I trust that it does.

“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.”

Do you LOVE what you do?  If not, why are you still doing it?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.  I imagine there are some different beliefs that float around the “need” to do a certain job or a certain deed. In my experience, when I hear my inner voice say I “should” do something, it usually means I’m holding on to a fear that if I don’t do it, something bad will happen. That’s just me though. What’s your experience? What do you see as the key to success?

  1. One of my professors said the key to happiness and success in earning a living were simply:
    1. Find something you love to do.
    2. Be good at that thing you love to do.
and often the most difficult one –
    3. Make sure that “thing” is something other people value and are willing to reward you for doing.

  2. I’m not doing what I love to do, and the only answer I have as to Why not? is that it (writing) would take awhile to make me money and I have to pay the bills in the meantime. I don’t think that’s a good enough reason any more. There must be a way to make it work. Thank you, Andrew (and Gabriella) for inspiring me to make deeper changes in my life.
