Workshop to Home, McCall Idaho 2023
While traveling north to teach an On-Site Training in Idaho, I realized my route took me straight through McCall. I had helped Angie and Burke host a7-day straw bale workshop there in 2023. Their home sat two minutes off the highway. I had not given them a heads-up. Instead of driving past, I took a chance and pulled in.
Angie was home and welcomed me inside without hesitation. Burke was nearby, and after a quick call, he came over and offered a full tour. What I saw stopped me in my tracks. The house felt settled. Finished. Lived in. Every surface reflected care, patience, and a steady hand. Burke approaches building like an artist. You see it in the details, the proportions, and the space's quiet confidence.
Walking through the completed home brought the workshop full circle. You feel the warmth the building holds, both physical and human. It reminded me why hosting matters. Angie and Burke opened their project to the community, trusted the process, and followed through to completion.
Thank you, Angie and Burke, for welcoming me in and for what you offered the straw bale community. Seeing your home finished was a gift.
